What is THE BEST way to Flush a Radiator?
The time will soon come for my Radiator to be Flushed and Refilled with the Green Coolant, and i dont Trust Shops to Flush it “Until the water runs through Clear.” Now, I did it myself on my BMW once, but i had minor issues with Air Pockets, and that was a Manual.
I Detached the Lower Radiator Hose, and ran water from a Garden hose through until it came out Clear.. Man that Radiator was DIRTY!! Then I un-hooked the Top hose and actually sludhed out through the Engine as well.
Now this car i have.. I have heard Shops have “Flushing Soap?”
How DO i knwo that they Flushed the Radiator UNTIL THE WATER RAN CLEAR?
This I have always wodnered, and i have NO IDEA how to do it myself on my 1991 Oldsmobile Cutlass Calais, as it is an Automatic Transmission and i dont SEE any Hoses, id need a step-by-step “How To” guide with tools id buy from AutoZone… (plus there is a plastic piece covering the bottom so how they do it, i dont know.)
if your radiator was that dirty i would take it out and send it to a radiator shop and have it roded out. yes, i find that over the counter flushes don’t work that well. they don’t have enough acid to clean the scales and rust off the wall of the block. if your not sure then take it to the dealer. they use very hot water and a cleaning agent that dose a good job. and they do a back flush when they do it..a back flush is sending the water back the way it came in, in other words they send it backwards.
