For once all these answers are great. I have cut trees for 40 years. Stihl and husky are the best saws in the world.The other brands are cheaper but they are made for limited use.You can’t go wrong with either one. Look at the size trees he will be cutting ask the dealer what would be the best bet. Most guys who cut a lot have two saws,one for limbs and one for the big jobs. Usually you can compromise with 18 to 24 inch for the average person.ADDED INFO. I prefer stihl my self .Mainly because there are more dealers and if you decide to sell it 2 or 3 years from now everyone knows what they are. I bought a stihl 046 magnum in1996 for 650.00 sold it in 2006 for 450.00 Not bad for a saw i used for 10 years.Ihave a 009 i bought in 1987 and am still using it.no punn intend.
