Electric Bench Grinder
Any ideas as to how good the Sarrus linkage is in practice?

Looking to see how good it is at maintaining the end plates parallel to each other, and how much error there is likely to be in the straightness of the line connecting the middle points of the end plates.
Thinking that it might save me a LOT of work to use some “hinges” and flat bar, in a project I’m planing, but before going to the effort I want to have some idea of the accuracy it’ll have.
Any hint’s/tips likely to make it more accurate would be most appreciated (try to remember the only metal working tools I’ve currently got access too are a decent electric drill/drill press attachment, a jigsaw, and a bench grinder)
Thinking about constructing it out of piano hinges, and flat metal stock
The length of the link plates is critical, could you mount the piano hinges on slots so that the sides can be adjusted? The clearance in the hinge pins has to allow for any discrepancy in the lengths and angular errors of the sides so this limits the stability. Careful, once it is fully extended, it will not automatically reverse as the side plates lock in a toggle action. Don’t use it if you are after accuracy. Well made it has very low friction compared to a plain slider bearing.
