x + 3 = other leg
x² + (x+3)² = 25
x² + x² + 6x + 9 = 25
2x² + 6x – 16 = 0
x = (-6 ± √[164]) / 4
x = (-6 ± 4√[41]) / 4
x = (-3 + √[41]) / 2
so
(-3 + √[41]) / 2 + (-3 + √[41]) / 2 + 3
√[41] ≈ 6.4031
