How do i clean old gasket material off the block?
Thanks for your help. I have really no one to turn to out here in the 12 degree NY weather. I am working on the street also.

Im replacing the intake mani. Its plastic.
I removed the old plastic intake manifold gaskets today on a 00 crown vic. There was alot of grease and hard debre stuck to the block when i pulled that gasket off. Some of the grease particles fell in the holes of the block That should be fine though right?
And also can i use acetone, paint thinner , opps or nail polish remover to get that hard gunk stuff off the block holes. I am using a plastic scraper . Im afraid to use a razor , i dont want to damage the metal and get leaks.
And…..Just AROUND the water holes of the block need to be cleaned, what about if there is still dirt and gunk near that area, will the new intake manifold still stick good. Should i scrub the whole enitre top of the block area clean?or just those inlet holes.

I am sure glad that’s it’s you and not me doing this job outside – I live in Maine and I feel your pain.
The “holes of the block” are more than likely the intake ports and you should try your best to keep any debris out of these. As far as cleaning the surface – carefully use a regular gasket scraper and when you get it as clean as you can, use a scotch pad to remove any remaining residue.
