High Leverage Side
How can I make this more descriptive?
“Well, that was stupid,” Max said. Using his elbows as leverage, he raised himself up onto his knees, and then stood.
“Now what?” Jess wondered aloud as she gazed at the door. “Do you think it’s locked?”
“Of course,” Sean said with satisfied chuckle. “Bad guys don’t leave anything unlocked nowadays.”
Max looked up, scanning the top edge of the fort. “Well, we can’t climb this thing, it’s way to high, and with the ice added on it’s probably impossible.”
A loud bolt came from behind the double doors that soon creaked open. Inside there was nothing but thick shadows of darkness. Though, on the bright side the floor continued on with steel. “At least we get a break from the ice,” Sean said, trying to make the situation less frighting. But either way, he knew nothing would cool off the fear hidden within themselves.
Simple, use more descriptive words. Like this:

As he did so, he began using his elbows as leverage to raise himself, he pushed off the ground, bringing his knees beneath him to an angle, placed his palms on the floor, and finally, brought one foot at a time under him to stand up straight. He then proceeded to dust himself off.
“Now what?” Jess wondered aloud, lost in mild thought. She absently stared at the door, a concerning thought drifting into her mind . “Do you think it’s locked?”
“Of course,” Sean said, humored by their lack of knowledge on how a criminal’s mind worked.
“Bad guys don’t leave anything unlocked nowadays.”
Max raised his head to view the top of the fort, his eyes scanning the top edge for something that would give them hope. Enough hope to crazily try and climb the enormous walls.
“Well, we can’t climb this thing, it’s way to high, and with the ice added on it’s probably impossible.”
A loud banging type of noise erupted from the other side of the double doors. They slowly creaked open, and they all gazed upon the sight, or rather, lack of. Inside there was nothing but thick eery shadows that mulled over the entire room, roaming through and sending chills through their spines. Though they had doubts, the floor was built with steel, giving them a shine of hope.
“At least we get a break from the ice,” Sean said, making the best out of the situation, and hoping the others would do the same. However as he gazed at each of their faces, he knew that there wasn’t a glimmer of prayer in their minds.
He knew they’d already been beaten.

It’s very easy to lengthen something if you first think the entire scene out before hand, write it, then add things into it after. Some people (like me) think up how many different ways to say something, and pick the longest one. Use thesaurus’ to pick different words, and learn how to make them work in sentences. It’s easy once you can do it all in your head.
