Do you have to be certified to start a small home repair service?

Me and 2 of my friends want to start a small home repair service (drywall, flooring, general fix ups) but are not certified for any of it (we know how to do all of it though) we plan to just do small time advertising
would this be illegal at all?
Also what kind of licensing would i need to get for this type of business?

All of this depends on the state that you are going to do this in. If you are going to perform this work in Oregon, you can check out this site, which lists the items you need:

California is very similar. Most states require a contractor license. It is not mandatory to get a corporation set up, but I would recommend it. This will save you in the long run. Claims of all sort are very common among construction companies. There are countless things that can go wrong.
