Inch Table Saw
For a hobby woodworker, should I get a 10 or 12 inch bandsaw?
I don’t do any huge projects and I just my table saw to rip. Will a 10 inch band saw be enough?

It really does depend on what your forte will be. I have a 14″ bandsaw and I love it. However, I also do a lot of re sawing and milling wood down to workable sizes. However, if you plan on working mostly with small projects, using wood that you obtain in small quantities and sizes, then you probably don’t need a big bandsaw. In fact, if you do mostly small projects like baskets, boxes, wood-burning, scroll-sawing, etc, you may be able to get by with a table-top model.
When I first began outfitting my shop, I tried to concentrate on buying tools that didn’t duplicate other tools, or buying tools that expanded my capabilities, depending upon what my interests and projects tended to be. For example, you wouldn’t ordinarily use a bandsaw to rip stock, and since you have a table-saw that will satisfy that task. A bandsaw will give you the flexibility of cutting or re-cutting wood, and also give you scroll-saw like qualities. Yet, if you do extremely small projects, like doll-houses or clocks, maybe a scroll-saw will be a better tool. Again, it depends upon your main interests.
Also, if you can see yourself expanding your horizons, maybe you should go with a larger tool with added capabilities.
One fnal thought…I’ve always tried to get the best quality tool for the type of work I intend to perform. You don’t necessarily have to buy top of the line tools for every task or project, but always try to get the best tool you can afford, for the type of work you intend to do. You’ll never regret any purchase using that frame of mind.
