How do you charge Lithium Ion batteries from the US in Europe?

More specifically, in France. I am getting a digital camera and it uses Li Ion batteries and I think I may need a converter?

The answer will vary by the device. Here is what I have found with my electronic devices.

1. Many are able to handle various levels of current and therefore all you need to do is convert the plug. Depending on the camera model there might be an adapter sold by the manufacturer. Or you can get a generic one from the airport and similar travel stores.

2. Some devices are sensitive to the voltage or amps that are coming out of an outlet. In that case you need a transformer. These are bulky items generally as they are really converting the current from one standard to another. Having a transformer does not mean that you will have a compatible plug so make sure you check that aspect also.

How do you know what you can plug in? Check the label on the device. It will show the range of voltage, amps and cycles that the item can handle when plugged in.

Assume that any decent camera is likely sold around the world so they have already designed in or otherwise come up with a practical way to deal with the various standards.
