An oxymoron is simply a contradiction in terms, as in the classic oxymoron “military intelligence” as an example. The word comes from the Greek “oxy” (sharp) and “moros” (dull) and is itself an oxymoron.
A paradox is a statement which appears to be a contradiction in terms, for example, “this statement is false”, or a situation such as the Grandfather Paradox, whereby the subject goes back in time to kill his own grandfather before his father is conceived, thus preventing his own birth.
So, in a nutshell (if you’re still awake and reading this far…), an oxymoron is a type of paradox, rendered in (usually) two words.
