Magnesium Circular
Finding the permanent set of a bar that is 750 mm long and stretched 6mm?
A circular bar of magnesium alloy is 750 mm long. The bar is loaded in tension to an elongation of 6mm and then the load is removed.
So the problem gives me a graph with strain (e) on the x-axis vs. stress (o) on the y-axis. I found the modulus of elasticity I think… But what am I suppose to get from the graph in order to find the permanet set of the bar. The answer in the back of the book is 2.97 mm but I still can’t figure out how that is the right answer…
please help….
Don’t mean to be a wise-guy, but as an engineering student ,you should really figure this out on your own.
I spent 14 years working with engineers, mostly fixing something they messed-up in the field.
I guess you don’t have the actual part or you could measure it. TOL would provide length with permanent set.
