Why do my skateboard wheels come off?

I just put skateboard wheels on my sons skateboard and after a day of riding two of them came off. I tightened the lock nut almost all the way only leaving like a milimeter for the wheels to slide around with. Is that too much room or not enough. The wheels are ritca 51mm with bones reds on independant trucks. Thanks

yea im not really sure of the problem but it could be that the lock nuts for the wheels are broken.
or have u been tightening and lossening them a lot? cause after a while with repeated tightening and lossening the hardware just wears out and they dont “lock” things like when they were new. wheels should also have some “play”, tighten the nuts snugly but make sure u leave a little space that u can feel but not a lot just a little. u want the wheels to make a little clack noise when u slide it back and forth. this helps the wheels spin more freely and faster
