What do the measurement numbers mean on air power tools?

I’m looking to buy some pneumatic tools for the garage and am trying to come up to speed on their details. I noticed when buying that there are different sizes of “drives” for the air ratchets, impact wrenches and drills, such as 1/4″, 1/2″, 3/8″ and 1″. I’m guessing that this refers to the width of the primary (“drive”?) gear inside the tool? And for the air hammers, what does BPM mean and why do the heavier duty models have a lower BPM number? Thanks.
Ok thanks! Pretty obvious answer; but I tend to make things harder than they are….

On the ratchet you would want a 3/8 drive on the impact a 1/2″. This relates to the size of the square holes in the bottom of the socket. Also the higher the FTLBs the stronger it is. In a drill you want to get a 1/2″ this is the largest the chuck will open thus the largest drill bit you can use. You can buy larger bits with reduces shank sizes but the larger chuck usually also means that it’s a more powerful tool. BPM is blows per minute the more blows the faster the work gets done.
