I sprained (grade 2-3) my ankle in Feb and it still hurts all the time… why?
On Feb 1 I sprained my ankle badly. Didn’t go to a doc about it (I could walk, so my dance prof said it was ok) until a month later when it seemed to get even worse (more painful, swelling wasn’t going away). Diagnosis? Grade 2-3 sprain of the lateral ankle ligaments and the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th metatarsals.
I was put in an aircast pneumatic boot (aka knee-high moon boot) for 6 weeks, from March to the very end of April. X-rays: no fractures. The swelling went down and so did the pain. Went to a chiro and physio for the ankle after, it felt nearly normal.
I am a dancer and am very fit, but now after every class, even after walking long distances, my ankle really …not hurts, but aches. The pain is enough to wake me sometimes, or force me to sit. Its a deep, dull, ache all around the ankle joint. It is also very easy to sprain and swells readily now… Any ideas on why this is still a problem so many months later?
Ankle injuries can take upward to two years. this is because of the use of this joint. Most people who suffer from these types of injuries report that they never feel 100% ever again. I am so sorry to tell this to you but it is the truth I damaged my ankles when I was 16 years old ans still today I can tell you when it will rain and how long it will last, oh and by the way I am 41.
