Router HP. & model advice or experiences, which model to buy?

I bought a Porter Cable 892 2-1/4 h.p router, than I read mixed reviews. It came with a rebate. Now I see the 690LR which is an excellent router but 1/2 hp less. the $ differance is only 50.00 but I want the best/reliable etc. one. I will not use it everyday. also I got the bigger one for table mount, and to be stronger for hardwoods. Is 1/2 hp that big of a deal? I was happy until I read a bad review. but that’s just one person. I’m going nuts, I think I should just flip a coin. Help, please?

Wow, you really posted this one in the wrong section…lol But you are in luck as I am an avid craftsman as well. I have had many great successes using Porter Cable products, and most of them I have used are older than I am (42). The router you have will outlast many of the other brands available today. The 2-1/4 h.p. will be more than enough to walk around or thru hard woods. The real tip here is to make sure that you purchase really good quality bits, as this router will be screaming. I highly recommend using carbide bits for this, especially if you want to work in a lot of hardwood. They will stay sharper and not get as hot. Hope this helps
