In Java, which happens to have an open socket connection, if you null set the socket instance?
… Instead of the call. close () on the socket example? Will pick up garbage collection? If only the socket connection time out? What happens to the open socket connection?
They do not know Java well enough to say for sure, but you could probably find with a simple test. Open your outlet. Run netstat (Linux and Windows both have netstat command). You If your firm in the netstat output. Set the instance zero. Run netstat again and see if anything changed. Wait. Let the connection timeout. Is it still there? Do something that can run the garbage collector. Is it still there? My guess is it will disappear not long after the timeout (sockets can to stay arises, it can not immediately). But this is just a guess.
