Solder Flux Paste

What is flux paste? Used along with a soldering gun? Help with usage of soldering gun..not used one before.?

Need to solder two metal pieces together on an outside light. Directions with soldering gun are not very inclusive.

This depends greatly on the 2 objects being soldered together. Solder will not bond to all materials, just the ones that the solder is designed for, usually conductive materials such as brass, copper or tin. Solder flux deos a couple things, it helps keep the guns element clean and it helps the solder bond to the part in question. You can buy rosin core solder with the flux already inside the solder, this is much easier to use then to use solder flux. Rememer that you cannot make a strong solder connection unless you can heat the part to a high enough temperature to melt the solder by feedign the solder into the joint, you don’t melt the solder on the gun, you melt it on the joint, if you can’t get the part hot enough you need to use a small propane or butane torch instead.
