what is flux used in surface mount technology soldering?
smt soldering which is also called drag soldering,some people use some flux and just drag the molten solder on the components pins what is that flux.also please tell me how to ask for the strip used for desoldering to the shopkeeper,means what is its name.

Flux is a material which is either a liquid or a greasy-like “rosin” substance which melts below soldering temperature. It strips oxide and scale off the metal you’re soldering to so that you can get a pristine surface which wants to react with the solder and let the solder wet out onto it. Stores often carry zinc chloride-containing rosin flux. After it activates the surface you’re heating, it deposits a thin layer of zinc which in turn reacts with the molten solder. Some solders are sold in wire form with flux built into the wire core, Rosin core is usually a zinc chloride-containing substance. Acid core is much stronger. I would use an acid core or liquid acid flux (e.g., HCl) only if I were soldering to a material difficult to get to react with the solder —- like steel.
There are mild acid fluxes which are based on citric acid. They work on copper (e.g., circuit boards) but require that the board already be very clean. These are used because cleaning off the flux residue after the soldering operation is much more environmentally friendly (i.e. you can use warm water). Rosin fluxes are often cleaned with chemicals like denatured alcohol or acetone.
