Can I swap a 3 speed caravan motor into my 4 speed 1996 dodge caravan? What would I need to do it?

I see that caravans came with two different transmissions for the 2.4 liter motor that my 1996 has, it shows on car-part.com thata 2000 neon tranny will work, problem is the neon trans is a 3 speed and my van is a 4 speed (od) tranny….. Can these be swapped?

You can not legally do this if you have the vehicle registered in California. The transmission will bolt up but along with many other obstacles you will have it is not at all cost effective or worth wild. One transmission is a electronically controlled trans and the other relies on hydraulics. Sensors are going to be blank causing check engine light issues along with Missing info to the Instrument cluster about what gear you are in and speedometer not getting a proper signal. I could go on forever. Unless you are levels above a shade-tree mechanic and or this is going to be a farm vehicle save your money and buy something that goes forward and reverse safely.
