Steel Loading Ramp
My van was “t-boned”. Would it be possible the frame could be bent?
This is an Accessible Van (handicapped) with a drop-down ramp. The man ran a red light and hit the van square in the middle, on the ramp side. With our van traveling at approx 30mph, and the other vehicle traveling at approx 30mph, the impact pushed the van door, and the steel ramp, about 4″ interior.
As I loaded some groceries in the rear hatch section of the van, I noticed when the hatch closed, there was a visable 1/4″ difference between the top hatch on the right. On the lower corners, there was a smaller discrepancy , but on the opposing side.
Should I have a mechanic check the frame, and measure it if needed? My insurance company said they could not “total” the van unless I had over $10K in damages!
Please assist me if you can, and I thank you for any suggestions.

You definately want to have this looked at. With the conversions on a lot of these vans costing around $20000, if there was some major damage to the frame of the car or to the conversion itself, you may have over $10000 in damage. But you should definately have it looked at anyway. Depending on what kind of accessible van you have, there is a lot of sensitive equipment built into the van. Some of it could have been seriously damaged and you may not even know yet. Make sure whoever looks at it works on accessible vehicles. Either go to where you bought it (if you bought it from a modified van dealer) or find a local modified vehicle dealer.
