Does your crystal ball HAVE to be crystal?

I was crystal ball shopping and I found this bluish green glass bulb that was used on a boat for fishing nets. It was cheap and at a flea market so i grabbed it, and for some reason it just seemed to have more energy to it than any of the other balls I saw. I ended up ordering a few online that I liked, but I still think that this old glass bulb fits me and my style better. Do you think that it is crucial for your tool to be crystal?
I have been using a bowl of water for some time, but I live in florida. Here leaving water out in the moonlight usually leads to moquito nests in the morning lol.
