Fishing question on spoons?
I lost a daredevle spoon yesterday during one of my cast. The spoon basically cut it’s way through the line during the whip of the cast. The knot was still intact (I used the rapala knot). Should I use snap swivels to avoid this from happening again?
the spoon should have originally come supplied with a split ring attached, to tie to. if it has no split ring, a small snap, just the snap, no swivel, would be fine. there are sharp edges in some of them that can cut your line.
also, the rapala knot may not be the best one to use in that situation. the loop is going to constantly rub and weaken. try the trilene knot or a clinch (improved clinch) and see if it does not hold up better. it is tight, with no movement and friction. the rapala knot works fine on lighter lures such as the original rapala or small topwaters. but it is still one you need to keep an eye on.
