Thinking of purchasing a new box + tools?

Ive been looking around various shops, looking for a roll cab box, i found this one on ebay,with tools included, but the price £230 make me think twice…..

You do not say what your job is, or what level you are at and whether the price seems too cheap – or too expensive (each option being relative to a persons income).

One thing i would mention is when you look at Sealey equipment, take a look at Machine Mart’s catalogue [which i think you can view on line in their website] because their Clarke brand tools/cabs etc are effectively identical to Sealey but come out a bit cheaper.

Anyway, at this price you should realise that both the cab and the tools are – no matter what the advertising blurb – DIY tools or entry level to kit up a first year apprentice to get him started. As DIY tools they will be fine, for daily professional use they will not last long. It is a fact of life that many professional mechanics will rubbish anything that does not have Snap on or Mac on it. There is no doubt they those 2 makers do indeed make some very fine tools and they do stand by their guarantee. Other excellent brands are Facom, Britool [though todays Britool products are no where as good as they used to be 20 years back] and the Japanese brand Teng are worth a look. Coming down the scale, Halfords Professional Range are mostly pretty fair tools and would make a decent starter kit for an apprentice. There seems to be a wide spread habit amongst younger mechanics and engineers to consider that they NEED a thousand quid cab filled with 10 grands worth of tools. this is just cods wallop! If you bought a 42 piece socket set for example, i can guarantee you that if you are a mechanic, 5 years down the line the 13mm socket will be worn out and probably already replaced, but half of those 42 pieces will never have been used ! Probably at least half of their tools will not get used from one years end to the next. But if they stay in their trade all their life what the heck, they are kitted out for every eventuality. But if they pack the trade in after a few years they will have wasted a lot of money. Anyone who use’s tool’s daily in their job will agree with one thing though, cheap tools are bad news. They do not last, do not do the job and have caused goodness knows how many minor and not so minor injuries when they have slipped or broken.
