What are smart tools to keep on hand for a flat tire?
What tools do you suggest would be useful to keep in the trunk if you get a flat tire? I know that you need a jack and lug wrench that comes with the car. It appears not all jacks and lug wrenches are equal, though.
Please advise what you think are the best of the best, like what kind or brand? Which jacks and lug wrenches would make changing a flat tire easier, with less effort required?
The best thing to have is an “X” or four way lug wrench, with either Metric or ASE sizes, depending on your vehicle. The larger the tool, the more leverage you can get to loosen and tighten the lugs. The lug wrench that comes with the car is not going to be that good.
If you want, a small hydraulic floor jack will be much easier to use than the factory jack. You can buy a floor jack with a case to store it in for about $20 – $30.
