What All You Need To Know About A Cutting Torch
A cutting torch is metalworking equipment similar to a welding torch. The metalworking equipment is designed to cut metal. This metal cutting equipment is specifically designed for cutting steel and carbon steel. It is not advisable to use this metal cutting device on other types of metal alloys. The cutting equipment can cut metal pieces of different sizes, ranging from large metal pieces involved in construction projects to small jewelry pieces in a jeweler’s shop.
A cutting torch heats the metal with the help of a fuel gas, such as propane, acetylene and map gas, and a burst of pressurized oxygen. The metal is heated by the gas flame until it gets cherry red. Once the desired temperature is attained, pressurized oxygen is supplied to the heated portions of the metal piece. The pressurized oxygen reacts with the hot metal to form metal oxide. As soon as the metal converts into metal oxide it flows away from the cutting area. This creates a cut on the metal sheet. Some portion of the metal oxide remains on the metal work piece, forming a layer of hard slag. The slag should be immediately chipped away to create a superior finish. The slag can be easily removed with help of a grinder.

Metal cutting often produces sparks. It is preferable to wear protective gear while working with the cutting device.
Never use a damaged torch. All the accessories of your gas fuel torch, such as regulators, operating tanks and tubing, should be in good condition. Repair or replace the damaged accessories immediately to avoid accidents.
It is preferable to keep the workplace clean and well organized. Also, it is advisable not to store any flammable material near the work area.
Keep fire extinguishers near to your work place so that you can access them readily in case of an emergency.
