Can I mount a room air conditioner in the floor (vertically)?
Hi, folks; I’d like to install a room air conditioner in my crawlspace hatch in the floor rather than in a window. (This will eliminate burglary concerns in my 1st floor window, and also keep the aircon unit in the shade all the time.)
Is there any reason why this wouldn’t work?
Is there an air-operated shutter inside room a/c that might hang open (by gravity) that would prevent me from mounting vertically? Are there other operational concerns with vertical mounting (like where the oil sits in the compressor?)

I read the first 4 replies, but am not sure of the expertise of the answerers. The entire backside/cooling fins (usually hanging outside the window) will be instead hanging downwards into my crawlspace..water will drain out just fine and plenty of air to remove the heat.
The compressor oil argument makes sense to me, though.
Definitely don’t mount it this way you will ruin it.The oil has to stay inside the compressor with it setting normally if you mount it this way you won’t have to worry about water it won’t run long enough to make very much.Service tec 17yr.
