Step Drill Bit On Stone-It’s Possible!
It is a simple process to ream though some people might complicate it.The best way to drill an accurately sized hole is with reamers even though they are often overlooked in favour of options perceived to be easier.Similarly, a great job would be done by a step drill but other drill bits are preferred when it comes to dealing with masonry.It is possible to use regular bits when cutting into stone.Material may however be damaged when one uses regular bits.The holder of the drill may sometimes place unnecessary pressure on the stone and thereby cracking it because traditional bits are not designed to drill holes in stone and slow down in the middle of a project.Masonry drill bits which are specifically designed for the job may not be as good a choice as a step drill which has a better design.
When drilling through rock or concrete, it is necessary to use a minimum of two drill bits when using a masonry drill bit.Simply drilling straight through the stone will not give you the required precision.The result of this method of drilling, unless you are very fortunate will be broken stone.Thus, use a smaller bit and drill a hole carefully.When you bring in the heavy drill, this will give you a starting point.A hammer action drill is normally used in conjunction with a masonry drill bit.
The need to drill a small hole first is eliminated due to the special design of a step drill bit.The drill bit is shaped in such a way where the tip of the drill bit is the smallest part of the piece.As you go further to the shaft, the width will keep increasing.The size of the small hole created by a step drill will start increasing immediately and gradually as it penetrates deeper in the rock.Unless the hole is drilled too quickly, there is little chance of damaging the stone as unlike regular drills, step drills produce far less vibrations.
There are only a few drawbacks to using a step drill bit.The drill may not be able to reach the required depth for example if the hole needs to be very deep.Alternatively, you may need the hole to be smaller in width than the thickest part of the step drill, which would make your drilling efforts more difficult.Even so the step drill’s quality is much better than that of a normal drill.The ideal solution to clean up holes are reamers.As a result, you should have a perfectly drilled hole with no cracking around the surface area of the stone.
Obviously then it is safer and quicker to use a step drill to carefully drill through rock rather than using traditional or masonry bits.Apart from the fact that they are easy to use, some of the specialized equipment in the market is far more expensive too in comparison.
